Artist Statement

In my work I strive to make pottery that connects with the viewer, and through the exploration of imagery. My intention is to evoke a sense of nostalgia. I work with an image transfer technique where my drawings and patterns are burned onto a silkscreen, then I use underglaze to print onto newsprint and lastly, I transfer the image from the piece of paper to a wheel-thrown mug. By adding various imagery I allow the viewer to connect with a shape, a graphic, or pop culture icon, furthering this nostalgia. In order to draw from the past I will often reference vintage cookware, classic magazine ads, gig posters, and mid century and pop art.
